King Abdullah II of Jordan held a meeting with Christian religious leaders at Al Husseiniya Palace on Monday, during which he underscored the importance of restoring stability in the Middle East and sustaining the Christian presence in the region.
During two other meetings attended by Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II with Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East and Patriarch Porphyrios of Serbia, His Majesty stressed the need to halt violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, which aim to alter the existing historical and legal status quo.
His Majesty, in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, Chief Adviser to the King for Religious and Cultural Affairs and His Majesty’s personal envoy, as well as His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III, Patriarch of Jerusalem and All Palestine and Jordan, reasserted Jordan’s ongoing religious and historical role in protecting these holy sites under the Hashemite rule.
The discussions also addressed the broader situation in the region. His Majesty emphasized the necessity of ensuring compliance with the agreement to end the war in Gaza, facilitating the flow of humanitarian aid, and halting the dangerous escalation in the West Bank.
The meetings were attended by the Director of His Majesty’s Office, Engineer Alaa Al-Bataineh.
