Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held a phone conversation yesterday with Pope Leo XIV, discussing global peace efforts and the ethical development of artificial intelligence.
In an official statement, the Italian government emphasized the nation’s appreciation and support for the Vatican’s peacemaking initiatives: “Italy values and supports the Holy See’s efforts to end armed conflicts and promote peace in all crisis regions, where weapons have replaced dialogue and the exchange of ideas.”
During the call, Meloni also expressed Italy’s readiness to collaborate with the Vatican on advancing ethical artificial intelligence in service of humanity.
“This is a key challenge that has been at the center of Italy’s G7 presidency and was also addressed by the new Pontiff during his meeting with the cardinals on May 10,” the statement added.
