The Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to the Republic of Moldova, His Excellency Giuseppe Maria Perricone, paid a courtesy and introductory visit on Tuesday to the Metropolis of Bessarabia, where he was received by His Eminence Petru, Archbishop of Chișinău, Metropolitan of Bessarabia, and Exarch of the Territories.
According to the Metropolis of Bessarabia, the talks focused on cooperation between the Metropolis and the Italian Embassy, marking an important step in strengthening bilateral relations.
Metropolitan Petru presented the work of the Metropolis of Bessarabia, highlighting pastoral, social, and construction projects. He underlined efforts to support the faithful both in the country and in the diaspora, particularly the Bessarabian community in Italy, where most of the Bessarabians living abroad reside.
The Metropolitan stressed the importance of dialogue with the Italian Embassy in support of this community. The existing cooperation between the Metropolis and Italian organisations was also discussed.
Admiration for the Metropolis of Bessarabia
Currently, Italian volunteers organise camps and educational programs for children in several parishes of the Metropolis. These programs aim to support young people and promote educational and Christian values.
Ambassador Giuseppe Maria Perricone expressed admiration for the hospitality of the Metropolis and its role in preserving national identity, and he praised the Church’s efforts to promote moral values and assist those in need.
The diplomat reiterated his wish to intensify cooperation between Italy, the Republic of Moldova, and the Metropolis of Bessarabia, to be developed in the spirit of friendship and shared European values.
