In an atmosphere of deep emotion and mourning, the island of Imbros solemnly received the body of the late Metropolitan Kyrillos of Moschonisia on the morning of Monday, May 27, 2025. The beloved hierarch passed away at the age of 83.
The church bells of the island rang mournfully, as locals gathered at the port holding roses from their gardens, paying their respects to the departed Metropolitan. Among those present was Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, who shared a heartfelt reflection on the ceremony through his personal Facebook account, describing the moving welcome given to the late bishop’s remains.
The Deputy Mayor of the island, along with representatives of local authorities, also participated in the reception, expressing their gratitude and reverence for Metropolitan Kyrillos, who faithfully served the Church and the people of God throughout his life.
The Funeral Service (Exodios Akolouthia) will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 13:00, at the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Imbros. The island prepares to bid farewell with due honor to a humble servant of the Gospel, whose memory will remain alive in the hearts of the faithful.
