On the occasion of the completion of fifty years since the transfer and donation of St. George’s Cathedral in Stockholm from the “Catholic Apostolic Church” to the Holy Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia, the Metropolis announces the organization of two days of anniversary events.
On Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., a Resurrectional Vespers will be celebrated, presided over by Bishop Bartholomew of Elaia, with the participation of Archimandrite Bartholomew, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou on Mount Athos, as well as clergy of the Holy Metropolis of Sweden. At 6:00 p.m., a lecture will follow by Archimandrite Bartholomew on the topic “The Power of Prayer in the Contemporary World,” while from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. a reception will take place in the Cathedral hall.
On Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 9:15 a.m., an Archieratical presiding at Orthros will take place by Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia, followed at 9:45 a.m. by an Archieratical Divine Liturgy, presided over by him. During the Divine Liturgy, Archimandrite Bartholomew will deliver the sermon, while a memorial service will be held for the founders and for all those who have served at the altar of the Cathedral.
At 11:30 a.m., Bishop Bartholomew of Elaia will present the bilingual commemorative volume of Metropolitan Cleopas, entitled “St. George’s Cathedral of Stockholm.” The events will conclude with closing remarks by Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia.
