The title of Honorary Doctor of the Department of Medicine, School of Health Sciences of the University of Thessaly, will be conferred upon Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Exarch of All Oceania.
The Investiture Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, at 7:00 p.m., in the “Hippocrates” Amphitheatre of the Department of Medicine, University of Thessaly (Viopolis, Larissa).
According to the program of the ceremony, proceedings will begin with an address by the Rector of the University of Thessaly, Professor Charalambos Billinis, who will welcome and commend the honoured Hierarch.
This will be followed by:
– A “Laudation” for His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, delivered by Professor Athanasios Giannoukas, Chair of Vascular Surgery.
– The Reading of the Resolution of the Senate, the Proclamation of the Honorary Doctorate, and the Presentation of the Diploma and Insignia of the Department of Medicine, by the President of the Department, Professor Aristidis Zibis.
The ceremony will conclude with the address of the honouree, on the topic: “‘I Seek Man’ on the Highways of the Internet: Relationships and Dependencies in the Digital Age.”
This honorary distinction marks a further strengthening of the bonds between Archbishop Makarios of Australia and the University of Thessaly, where His Eminence had previously taught as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Medicine. It also constitutes a great honour for the faithful of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
