The liturgical program of Holy Wednesday began at the Greek Hospital of Cairo, with Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis, Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, presiding over the Service of Holy Unction. He was joined in prayer by the Very Reverend Archimandrite Ioakeim.
The small chapel of Saint Panteleimon, nestled for over a century in the heart of the hospital, once again became a source of healing grace. The presence of the saint, known for his intercessions for the sick and the suffering, offered spiritual comfort to all present—easing the pain of both soul and body.
The faithful gathered reverently in the intimate space, experiencing the boundless and transcendent blessing of the sacrament, receiving the holy anointing with devout hearts.
Metropolitan Nikodimos extended heartfelt wishes to all, saying:
“May your spirit remain clear and pure, so that we may truly experience the Passion, the Crucifixion, and—above all—the Resurrection of our Lord.”
This Holy Week encounter at the Greek Hospital is yet another reminder of the Orthodox Church’s enduring mission: to offer healing, hope, and grace even in the most humble and sacred of places.
