On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened in a regular session under the presidency of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
The Synod examined a series of matters listed on the agenda and made the corresponding decisions.
Specifically, in the cases of:
a) the inactive Bishop Aimilianos of Meloe, who resides in the United States;
b) Deacon Christos Karafotias, a cleric of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, concerning the canonical offenses they committed,
The following penalties were imposed:
- For the Bishop of Meloe, the penalty was a six-month suspension from all sacred duties.
- Deacon Christos Karafotias was dismissed from his highest clerical office and returned to the lay order.
