The session of the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece for 2025 concluded with the election of two new Metropolitans and five Auxiliary Bishops.
During the three-day proceedings, several important reports were presented, including one by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, who sounded the alarm over the current challenges and critical situation facing the country.
Particular attention was given to the address by Metropolitan Nikolaos of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki, who spoke about the stance the Church of Greece should adopt regarding the growing impact of artificial intelligence on daily human life.
Regarding the elections, the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy elected:
- Bishop Pavlos of Thespies as the new Metropolitan of Corinth, and
- Bishop Alexios of Stavropigio as the new Metropolitan of Konitsa.
Additionally, the following were elected as Auxiliary Bishops:
- Archimandrite Theologos Alexandrakis, Director of the Pastoral Training Foundation of the Archdiocese of Athens, as Bishop of Talantion,
- Archimandrite Nikodimos Pharmakis, General Director of the Church’s Financial Service (EKYO), as Bishop of Epidaurus,
- Archimandrite Athinagoras Birdas as Bishop of Domeniko,
- Archimandrite Ioannis Karamouzis, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, as Bishop of Skiathos, and
- Archimandrite Varnavas Theoharis as Bishop of Christoupolis.
