On May 15, 2025, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church convened at the Patriarchal and Synodal Residence in the Danilov Monastery in Moscow, under the chairmanship of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
The Holy Synod heard a report from Patriarch Kirill on his recent Primatial visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The report was received with gratitude.
The Synod expressed thanks to Patriarch Kirill for his efforts and for bringing spiritual joy to the clergy, monastics, and faithful of the Baku-Azerbaijan Diocese.
Appreciation was extended to President Ilham Aliyev and Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade for their warm reception and hospitality.
Special thanks were offered to Bishop Alexy of Baku and Azerbaijan for his hospitality during the visit.
The Synod positively evaluated the cooperation between the Russian Orthodox Church, the government of Azerbaijan, and the Muslim Board of the Caucasus, emphasizing the importance of maintaining interreligious peace and harmony.The Synod also deliberated on the filling of the vacant episcopal see of the Grozny Diocese.
Hieromonk Ambrose (Marchenko), a cleric of the Grozny Diocese, was elected Bishop of Grozny and Sunzha.
The location and date for his elevation to the rank of archimandrite and his episcopal consecration will be determined at the discretion of Patriarch Kirill.
