The proceedings of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia were concluded on Saturday, 4 October 2025. The Synod convened in its regular session for the month of October, beginning on the 2nd of the current month, under the presidency of Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
During the previous sessions, the reports of the the Bishops were read, whom Archbishop Makarios, the President, congratulated for their ecclesiastical ministry and their valuable contribution to the faithful of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
Subsequently, the Synod examined the designation of Cathedral Churches within the local Holy Dioceses and decided that a new Cathedral Church dedicated to the Dormition of Our Lady will be built from the foundations in the suburb of Mount Gravatt, for the Holy Diocese of Brisbane.
For the Holy Diocese of Chora, the Church of Our Lady “Axion Estin” was elevated to the status of Cathedral Church of Our Lady “Axion Estin.”
The Cathedral Churches for the remaining Dioceses will be announced in due course.
In accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, the Holy Eparchial Synod established the Synodal Committees, presided over by the the Bishops, with Vice-Presidents drawn from the members of the Archdiocesan Council, as follows:
