With the blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the Central Philoptochos Women’s Fellowship of the Holy Diocese of Adelaide hosted an elegant and inspiring “High Tea – Afternoon Gathering” on Sunday, October 12, at the Hilton Hotel in Adelaide. The event united people from across South Australia in a spirit of faith, friendship, and charitable giving.
The gathering began with a prayer offered by Bishop Silouan of Adelaide, after which guests enjoyed an exquisite selection of sweet and savory delicacies accompanied by tea, and the warm hospitality of the organizers. Attendees also viewed a short video presentation highlighting the missionary and pastoral work carried out within the Diocese of Adelaide, which deeply moved those present and underscored the importance of supporting local and global missions.
Guest speaker Mrs. Matina Ravelo shared heartfelt reflections from her many years of missionary service in Madagascar, emphasizing the spiritual fulfillment such service brings and the relevance of mission work within Australia.
Bishop Eumenios of Chora also attended the event, offering an uplifting message encouraging everyone to continue serving Christ and His Church with love, humility, and joy.
The event concluded with a closing address by Bishop Silouan, who passionately spoke about the importance of missionary work in the life of the Church. Quoting Christ’s commandment,
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19),
he reminded everyone that this divine calling continues to inspire the Church’s ministry, especially in Australia. Bishop Silouan also conveyed the blessings and paternal love of Archbishop Makarios to all attendees.
The Central Philoptochos Women’s Fellowship expressed heartfelt thanks to all participants, donors, and volunteers whose contributions made the “High Tea” not only a memorable social event but also a powerful expression of love and faith to the glory of God.
