On Sunday, September 5, 2021, Metropolitan Athinagoras of Belgium presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Polish-speaking Parish of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Anderlecht, Brussels, accompanied by Assistant Bishop Ioakeim of Apollonias.
The Metropolitan was accompanied by priests and deacons of the city of Brussels, while the Divine Word was preached by the Hierarchical Head of the Parish, Protopresbyter Pawel Cecha, who referred to the Marian feast day.
The Metropolitan thanked Bishop Ioakeim of Apollonia for his presence, and congratulated the head of the parish and the church council for the organization of the festival.
He expressed his satisfaction with the work carried out in the Polish-speaking parish of the Metropolis within the framework of the ecumenicality of the Orthodox Church, while he mentioned that the Parish of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is a model for solving the canonical problem of the Orthodox Church.
In addition, he thanked for his presence Julien Milquet, Deputy Mayor for Religions of the Municipality of Anderlecht, as well as the online channel Cerkiew.pl that broadcast the Divine Liturgy live.
Then, observing all the health protocols, a festive reception for all those present took place in the open space of the Parish.
