On Sunday December 28, 2025, in the radiant joy and festive jubilation of the Lord’s Nativity, the ordination of Konstantinos Banias to the holy diaconate took place at the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Theotokos, Wood Green, presided by Bishop Iakovos of Claudiopolis.
Orthodox Christians from London and beyond filled the Cathedral in order to prayerfully participate in the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and sacrament of ordination, proclaiming ‘Axios’ to the new Deacon of the Holy Archdiocese.
Deacon Konstantinos, who will serve the diverse needs and ministries of the community of St Barnabas, is married to Elena and is a father of two children.
In his ordination speech, he graciously thanked Archbishop Nikitas, Bishop Iakovos, his spiritual father Hieromonk Nikolai Sakharov of the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of St John the Baptist, the fathers of the community, Archon Marios Minaides, chairman, the committees, his devoted wife Elena, his two sons and wider family.
