On Monday, August 18, at the Cultural Center of Agioi Theodoroi in Imbros, the Mount Athos Center hosted the event “The Hidden Treasure of Princeton: Mount Athos and Meteora, 1929”, as part of the annual summer celebrations “Imbrian Theotokia 2025”, organized each year by the Metropolis of Imbros and Tenedos.
The event was honored by the presence of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, the Secretary General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Mayra Myrogianni, along with a large gathering of Greeks from Imbros.
Visitors had the opportunity to view part of the exhibition featuring rare photographs from the Princeton University archive. The director of the Mount Athos Center, Anastasios Ntouros, delivered a lecture presenting the research conducted in the Princeton archive, focusing on the group of three American travelers who, in 1929, journeyed to Mount Athos and Meteora with the primary aim of photographing and filming the two great monastic communities.
Following the lecture, a documentary was screened, showcasing restored footage preserved in the archive, offering audiences a unique glimpse into monastic life nearly a century ago.
