On October 19 and 20, Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology will host a conference titled Reflections on the Beloved Elder in America: Gerasimos Papadopoulos.
The Conference will feature a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy celebrated by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, followed with a Memorial Service for Bishop Gerasimos of Abydos, and the Premier viewing of the Documentary: “Bishop Gerasimos of Abydos: Spiritual Elder of America,” produced by Nicholas Furris.
The Conference also features six speakers: His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, formerly on America: “The Elder as Bishop in America”; Fr. Filotheos Papadopoulos: “The Elder as a Youth and the Early Years as a Monastic”; Fr. Athanasios Melissaris: “The Elder and His Theological Studies”; Fr. Alkiviadis Calivas: “The Elder and His Years at Holy Cross”; Fr. Theodore Stylianopoulos: “The Elder as Interpreter of the New Testament”; Dr. John Fotopoulos: “The Elder as Spiritual Father.”
Bishop Gerasimos of blessed memory was greatly esteemed for his writings and much loved for his personal qualities of deep piety and humility.
He taught and resided at HCHC for many years until his passing in 1995, fittingly on the Feast of the Holy Spirit.
The Bishop was laid to rest behind Holy Cross Chapel, close to the Maliotis Cultural Center, where the conference will be held.
An international roster of distinguished speakers, including Former Archbishop Demetrios, will explore different aspects of Bishop’s life and work, and a documentary film about him will be premiered.
In the announcement, it is mentioned that those wishing to attend the conference in person are advised to register in advance, as seating will be limited. Anyone interested can register and learn much more about Bishop Gerasimos at mailto: bishopgerasimos.org. The conference will also be live-streamed on the site.
