On Sunday, November 23, the Holy Diocese of Chora had the distinct honor of welcoming an official delegation from the Hellenic Army Academy, which attended the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of “Axion Estin” in Northcote.
The delegation was composed of the Commander of the Hellenic Army Academy, Major General Anastasios Polychronos, who was accompanied by his wife; the Dean, Professor Dr. George Kaimakamis; the Head of International Cooperation, Major Evangelos Zarkos; the Commander’s Adjutant, Captain Vassilios Athanasopoulos; the Defence Attaché of Greece in Canberra, Kyriakos Kyriakakos, together with his wife and daughter; and the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Dimitra Georgantzoglou.
Bishop Evmenios of Chora welcomed the delegation with warm words on behalf of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and Archbishop Makarios, conveying the Archbishop’s blessings and best wishes.
In his brief address, the Bishop underlined the importance that the presence of representatives of the Armed Forces holds for Hellenism in Australia. He emphasized that the Hellenic Army Academy stands as “an institutional and moral pillar of national service, forming officers with high morale, principles, and devotion to Greece.”
He also informed the visitors about the Holy Archdiocese’s major developmental and cultural initiative, the Chora Precinct Development Project, highlighting its role in preserving the Orthodox identity and Greek cultural heritage for future generations of the Greek Diaspora.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the Holy Diocese hosted a luncheon in honor of the delegation.
