Patriarch Kirill of Moscow sent greetings to the Cuban statesman Raúl Castro Ruz on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of his birth.

Your life’s journey stands as an example of devoted and courageous service to your homeland, of active care for your people, and of steadfast defense of your country’s genuine sovereignty.
I deeply value your positive attitude toward the Russian Orthodox Church. Thanks to your support and care, a magnificent Orthodox church was built in Havana in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
Recalling with warmth our meetings in both Cuba and Russia, I wish you good health and longevity, unbreakable strength of spirit, and prosperity.
