Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has spoken of a “new era for the Church of Crete” in a statement published by the news agancy “Chaniotika Nea”, following the recent ecclesiastical developments on the island.
In his statement, the Prime Minister noted that a new chapter is opening in the ecclesiastical history of the Metropolis of Kydonia and Apokoronas, as well as the Metropolis of Lambi, Syvritos and Sfakia. He underlined that this new beginning comes “with the best possible foundations” for Crete, the Church of Crete, and the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which he described as the Mother Church of all.
Mr. Mitsotakis extended his congratulations to the Archbishop of Crete, the Metropolitans of the Church of Crete, and the Exarchate of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, praising the message of strong unity and just hope conveyed through the recent process.
“Congratulations are due to the Archbishop of Crete, the Metropolitans of the Church of Crete and, of course, the Exarchate of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for the message of strong unity and fair hope they sent today,” the Prime Minister stated. He concluded his message with the traditional ecclesiastical affirmation for the newly elected hierarchs: “Axios to the elected Metropolitans.”
