On the morning of Tuesday, April 29, a delegation from the Greek Presidential Guard visited St. Spyridon College in Sydney, as part of their trip to Australia to participate in the ANZAC Day commemorative events.
The delegation was enthusiastically welcomed by the College’s 800 students, from preschool through Year 12, who, along with the entire school staff, filled the Church of St. Spyridon for a Doxology Service marking the beginning of the second academic term following the Easter holidays.
The Parish Priest, Fr. Stylianos Skoutas, warmly welcomed the twelve Evzones, along with their Commander and accompanying Officers, and expressed gratitude to the President of the Hellenic Republic for granting permission for the Presidential Guard members to travel to Australia and visit the College.
The College Principal, Ms. Emilia Katsogianni, also welcomed the members of the Greek Presidential Guard and addressed the students, highlighting the shared motto of the Hellenic Armed Forces and St. Spyridon College – “Aien Aristeuein” (“Always Strive for Excellence”) – emphasizing the importance of discipline and the role model that the Evzones represent for the students.
Mr. Michail Tzinieris, leader of the delegation, visibly moved, addressed the 800 students, expressing his pride in visiting St. Spyridon College. The accompanying Officers also spoke to the students about the history and significance of the Evzone uniform.
Following the Doxology, the Evzones were given a guided tour of the College’s Kingsford campus and met many young students, while light refreshments were served.
