President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine Tassoulas is participating on Monday in the 8th European Political Community Summit, taking place in Yerevan.
Upon his arrival, Tassoulas stated that “today’s 8th European Political Community Summit is being held in Yerevan, Armenia, at a critical juncture for Europe and the world. The ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East continue to pose risks to international peace, economic growth and energy security worldwide.”
He also noted that “in this challenging environment, Europe as a whole must seek solutions that promote unity and strategic autonomy, while remaining firmly committed to the principles of democracy, the rule of law, human rights and respect for international law. In this context, today’s Summit offers an opportunity to discuss strengthening our common European home, our democratic institutions and our critical infrastructure against the wide range of hybrid threats that could undermine the cohesion of our societies.”
“We will also exchange views on the need to strengthen the European economy, primarily through energy and technological connectivity projects. On its part, Greece aspires to play a key role in this area through the development of infrastructure such as the Vertical Corridor, which will position it as a hub for the import and transmission of energy and other goods to the Balkans, Central and Eastern Europe,” Tassoulas added, concluding: “I look forward to constructive discussions that will contribute to deepening cooperation and promoting peace for the benefit of all European countries and their citizens.”
On the first day of his visit to Yerevan on Sunday, the President attended an official dinner hosted by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in honour of heads of state and government.
