“The memory of the victims of the Pontic Genocide calls on us to remain united, determined and committed to the values that underpin the peaceful coexistence of peoples,” emphasized the President of the Hellenic Republic, Constantine Tassoulas, in his message on the occasion of May 19, the Day of Remembrance for the Genocide of the Pontic Greeks.
As he noted: “Today, we honor the memory of the victims of the Pontic Genocide, a crime against humanity during the Ottoman Empire, which indelibly marked Hellenism and our historical conscience.”
He added that “this day is a reminder of the need to defend historical truth and to work tirelessly for the international recognition of the Genocide, as an act of justice and moral restitution.”
