Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis underscored the strategic importance of the trilateral cooperation between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel following the conclusion of the 10th Trilateral Summit, emphasizing that this partnership has been “tested, proven resilient, and contributes decisively to stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
In his statements, the Prime Minister strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Australia that targeted members of the Jewish community. He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and affirmed Greece’s solidarity with the Jewish community.
“Antisemitism has no place in today’s society, and religious hatred must be confronted decisively. This struggle must be constant,” Mr. Mitsotakis stated. He noted that the broader region is undergoing profound transformations, marked by serious risks but also significant opportunities to shape a security architecture capable of ensuring long-term peace and prosperity.
The Prime Minister highlighted the strategic weight of the trilateral cooperation scheme, stressing that it is firmly grounded in international law and the principles of good neighborly relations. He underlined that the alliance of three democratic coastal states promotes regional stability and shared prosperity.
During the summit, developments in Gaza were also discussed. Mr. Mitsotakis called for the return of the remaining victims of the Hamas terrorist attack and observed that recent diplomatic initiatives have opened a new window of opportunity. He stressed that the agreement reached must be respected by all parties. “We must neutralize every attempt at terrorism and strengthen regional security,” he said, adding that Greece remains ready to contribute to the next phase through diplomacy and initiatives aimed at stability.
The Prime Minister also reiterated Greece’s support for the stability and territorial integrity of Lebanon, noting that Greek assistance has contributed to strengthening the country’s security. Referring to Syria, he stated that one year after the fall of the Assad regime, security has been largely restored. However, he emphasized that respect for all religions and ethnic communities remains essential.
In this context, Mr. Mitsotakis placed particular emphasis on the need to protect the Orthodox Christians of the Middle East, underlining Greece’s consistent concern for their safety, religious freedom, and continued presence in their historic homelands.
