Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed a warm message to Greeks in Australia on the occasion of the Greek Indepedence Day.
At the outset, Mitsotakis expressed his regret over the postponement of his planned visit to the fifth continent, due to circumstances related to the current international unrest.
“I truly wish I could be with you in person,” he noted, explaining that the situation prevailing in the broader region in recent weeks requires his presence in Greece.
The Greek Prime Minister further described today’s anniversary as a bridge connecting Greece’s history with the vibrant pulse of the Greek diaspora in Australia, which he highlighted as one of the most dynamic in the world.
He also referred to the recent legislation granting Greeks abroad the right to vote in Greece’s national elections by postal ballot, emphasizing, among other things, that this initiative confirms that “your voice matters.”
Finally, he delivered a message of unity, stressing that “in an uncertain world, our unity is our strength, our diaspora is our global footprint, and our shared identity is our compass.”
