Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis made statements about Hagia Sophia and Varosha in his speech at the Empress Theofano Award ceremony to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Layen, which took place at the monument of Rotunda.
Referring to the monument of Rotonda, he stressed that it symbolized the meeting of religions and cultures, but that had not been the case with the monument of the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople from the day it was converted into a mosque.
Turkey’s decision to extend the license for entry to the coastal front of Varosha in Cyprus was condemned by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
“This decision is a clear violation of the UN Security Council resolutions and Greece is going to support all the relevant efforts of the Republic of Cyprus,” said Mitsotakis.
“Europe’s borders, the outline not only of European sovereignty but also of its values, are being challenged when a third country, Turkey, violates the rights of two EU members, Greece and Cyprus,” said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
