Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today at the Maximos Mansion with the new U.S. Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, emphasizing that relations between the two countries are at a historic high while expressing confidence that they can be strengthened even further.
“We are very pleased to welcome you at a time when Greek-American relations are at a historic peak — though that does not mean we cannot improve them even more,” the Prime Minister said during his introductory remarks.
Mitsotakis highlighted the broad agenda for deepening bilateral cooperation, describing Greece as a pillar of regional stability, a traditional U.S. ally, and a vital player in regional cooperation, particularly amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
He also noted Greece’s strategic role in energy, referring to the upcoming energy conference in Athens with strong American participation. “Greece is the entry point for liquefied natural gas in the wider region. The vertical corridor is a project of strategic importance for both Greece and the U.S., and we look forward to further developing it,” he stated.
The Prime Minister added that both nations aim to enhance cooperation in technology and investment, encouraging greater participation of major American tech companies in Greece.
He further stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties, noting the upcoming 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence as an opportunity to highlight shared democratic values.
Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle expressed her gratitude, calling it an honor and privilege to serve in the cradle of democracy. She confirmed her participation in the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American independence and praised Greece’s role as a key partner in energy security and regional stability.
Referring to the 3+1 initiative and the upcoming summit in Athens, she noted the strong U.S. delegation, including the Secretary of the Interior, several ministers, and senior officials, underscoring Washington’s commitment to advancing trade and energy cooperation as pillars of security.
Ambassador Guilfoyle concluded by affirming that Greece-U.S. relations rest on a solid foundation and have the potential to grow even stronger in the years ahead.
