Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and world-renowned Serbian tennis champion Novak Djokovic visited the Church of Panagia on the island of Tinos on Friday afternoon to pay their tribute to the icon of the Virgin Mary, according to Protothema.
Djokovic, 37, and holder of 24 Grand Slam titles, is well known for his deep spiritual beliefs and is a frequent visitor to monasteries in Montenegro.
Currently vacationing on Tinos, Djokovic expressed his desire to visit the church to the Prime Minister before the two sat down for dinner at a local restaurant.
Shortly after, worshippers at the Church of Panagia were surprised to see Djokovic—affectionately known as “Nole”—and Mitsotakis waiting in line to light a candle and pay their respects to the miraculous icon.
The visit comes amid reports that Djokovic and his wife, Jelena, are considering relocating to Greece. The couple recently toured several schools in the northern suburbs of Athens as potential options for their children’s education.
This wasn’t the first meeting between the two men. In mid-June, Mitsotakis and Djokovic had also shared a private dinner—without their spouses—at “Papadakis,” a well-known restaurant in Kolonaki frequently visited by the Prime Minister.
