Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis exchanged a warm handshake during a recent meeting in New York. Mitsotakis, who is in the United States to participate in the UN General Assembly, attended a Greek diaspora event in Astoria, New York, where he was welcomed by members of the community.
The Archbishop, who was also present at the event, had a brief but cordial meeting with the Prime Minister. Reflecting on their interaction, Archbishop Elpidophoros expressed his delight on social media, stating: “In Astoria, New York, where the heart of Hellenism beats strongly, it is always an extraordinary honor and great pleasure for us to welcome the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.”
This encounter emphasized the ongoing strong ties between the Greek Orthodox Church in America and the Greek government, as both continue to support and engage with the Greek diaspora in the United States.
