Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis welcomed on Saturday the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, at the Maximos Mansion.
Welcoming Mike Pompeo, Kyriakos Mitsotakis asked for USA’s contribution in addressing the Turkish provocations against Cyprus and Greece. “Turkey’s recent activities in the plot 7 violate the sovereignty rights of Cyprus,” said the Greek prime minister. He also added that the US was interested in the region and the only thing that Cyprus was asking for was to respect the International Law.
Mitsotakis referred to Ankara’s extreme rhetoric statements and said that Turkey’s activities did not comply with the international law and with the good neighbourly relations.
On the cooperation with the sector of defence, Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that it could be mutually beneficial especially to the stability and safety in the area.
He also referred to US companies’ interest for investments in Greece by pointing out the investments of Pfizzer, Cisco, Onyx in Syros shipyards and indirectly EXXON, which is interested in joint ventures in the hydrocarbons research in Crete. He also highlighted the importance of the cooperation in the field of tourism, American tourists, the scholarships for Greek students, the exchange programmes and the ‘abolition’ of the visa for Greek citizens.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis also said that there is also cooperation in the energy sector with the liquefied gas and the research for hydrocarbons.
