Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, during a brief conversation captured on camera at the Maximos Mansion, referred to the passing of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania.
“These are difficult days for Orthodoxy as a whole. I think we were all deeply moved by the loss of the Archbishop of Albania. I had the privilege of knowing him personally,” Mitsotakis remarked.
He was indeed a great primate and a great man, who carried out remarkable work in Albania, essentially rebuilding a ruined Church. Above all, he was a man of God who truly cared for people.
“That is why I will have the opportunity, and we will be together at the funeral service in Tirana, to honor him as he deserves,” the Prime Minister said.
“He was indeed a man of the few. I too knew him and was with him since the third grade. May God rest his soul. We thank you for your participation in both our mourning and our bitterness, but these are the human things.
Today we have come to greet you, to see you in person, and to discuss our matters, your matters, the matters of our time,” the Archbishop said.
According to government sources, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens discussed current issues concerning relations between the State and the Church, particularly those of a social nature, in the context of deepening solidarity between the two institutions.
