Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Archbishop Elpidophoros of America spoke by phone a few days ago, following an initiative by Mr. Mitsotakis.
The call took place shortly before the ceremony at the White House marking Greek Independence Day, but it was significant as it broke the ice that had formed over a long period between the Prime Minister — and top government officials — and the Archbishop.
As a well-informed source from the Prime Minister’s Office noted, “It is important to put an end to division within the Greek-American community, because the challenges ahead are significant and require the mobilization of everyone, without internal disputes.”
