Yesterday, Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni was briefed on the progress of the conservation efforts at the Patriarchal Church of St. George in the Phanar. The work is being carried out by the European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments. This update took place during her working visit to the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
After a private meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Lina Mendoni toured the newly renovated building of the Patriarchal Urban School of Marasli. Following this, Flora Karagianni, the director of the European Centre, provided a detailed briefing on the ongoing maintenance efforts on the church’s iconostasis and holy icons.
