The “adventure” of the Modern Greek Studies Program of Latrobe University had a happy ending, which will continue for at least another three years.
This is the content of the agreement, which was signed on the morning of Wednesday, December 16, to justify the struggle waged by the Greek Diaspora throughout the previous period.
It was a sacred and national struggle, as it was characterized by the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, which, with the personal interest and guidance of Archbishop Makarios, who participated actively in the Program Rescue Committee.
It is recalled that the Holy Archdiocese, in addition to contributing financially to the continuation of the Program, set as a priority and goal the encouragement of students of its educational institutions and all those interested in enrolling in the Program of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Latrob for the revitalization of the last tertiary program of Modern Greek Studies in Melbourne.
At today’s signing ceremony of the agreement for the maintenance of the Program, Archbishop Makarios was represented by the Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, Archimandrite Evmenios Vasilopoulos. The agreement was co-signed by the President of the Hellenic Community of Melbourne, Vassilis Papastergiadis and on behalf of the University, by the Vice Rector John Dewar, with witness the State MP, Kat Theofanous.
The signing of the agreement, which took place in an atmosphere of joy and emotion, marked the beginning of a new demanding effort, without complacency, for the further development and shielding of the Program.
