Commenting on yesterday’s reading of the Quran in Hagia Sophia, Greek government spokesman Stelios Petsas said that the event was insulting a World Heritage Site: “Their action has been condemned by the international community, not just by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he pointed out.
“The matter does not concern only the Greeks but also all Christians in general. It is a matter of insulting a monument of world cultural heritage, which symbolises much more than a propaganda fiesta. Being provocative and being powerful are two completely different things,” he said.
