Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management, Nikos Chardalias, stressed during today’s briefing on the coronavirus that the State has taken difficult decisions regarding gatherings of citizens in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
He added that the Church of Greece, which contributed to the efforts concerning the effective prevention to tackle the coronavirus transmission, kept pace with the decisions taken by the State by showing courage and its sense of responsibility. He said that it was very important that the Church of Greece provided guidelines to the faithful regarding the celebration of the church services during Holy Week.
Referring to the clarification statement issued by the spokesman of the Church of Greece, Metropolitan Ierotheos of Nafpaktos, he said that the churches would be open during the Holy Week at a specific time of the day. It concerns only the priests and the necessary staff of the churches, that is a chanter and a sexton. He stressed that churches would be closed to the faithful. He also called on the faithful to follow the guidelines of the Holy Synod and to remain at home to pray otherwise the national effort would be jeopardised.
