The escalation of violence in Jerusalem and Gaza must stop, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
It stressed that Greece was deeply concerned about the recent rocket attacks on civilians in Israel, which were reprehensible, and called for an immediate end to them.
“At the same time, recognizing Israel’s right to self-defense, we again reaffirm the need for all parties to take action that will lead to an immediate de-escalation. Steps must also be taken to avoid further casualties among the civilian population.
“Greece, as it has stressed in the past regarding the Middle East Peace Process, underlines that the settlement of the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians on the basis of a two-state solution is a necessary condition for overall peace and stability in the region,” the statement said.
