“Greece could not but side with the party defending itself,” stressed foreign ministry spokesperson Lana Zochiou regarding the conflict in Ukraine, at the regular briefing of diplomatic correspondents on Tuesday, responding to recent statements by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
As Zochiou said, Lavrov’s statements “ are nothing new, nor are they statements that take us by surprise.” She also noted that the inviolability of borders is a position of principle for Greece, adding that “ relations with Russia were at a satisfactory level until 2022.”
“Of course, we take into account what was said by the Russian foreign minister,” she emphasised. “ As Greece, we seek to preserve good relations with Russia and we wish, in the future, when conditions allow, for relations to be restored,” she added.
