On Wednesday, October 22, Mr. Ioannis Loverdos, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, paid an official visit to the offices of the Holy Diocese of Perth, accompanied by Mr. Stavros Venizelos, Ambassador of Greece to Australia and New Zealand, and Ms. Eleni Georgopoulou, Consul of Greece in Perth.
Upon his arrival, the Deputy Minister was welcomed and guided through the Church of Saint Nektarios, located adjacent to the diocesan offices. He then visited the facilities of the “Vasileiada” Aged Care Centre, where he had the opportunity to meet with residents and beneficiaries of the Day Care Centre.
Following this, Mr. Loverdos toured the Diocesan Exhibition Space, situated at the entrance of the offices on the first floor, before proceeding to the conference hall, where a luncheon was held in his honor.
Bishop Elpidios of Perth warmly welcomed the Deputy Minister on behalf of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, expressing heartfelt appreciation for his visit: “Today we opened both our doors and our hearts to a minister who deeply touched us with his love and inspiring words,” Bishop Elpidios said.
During the luncheon, Bishop Elpidios presented a video produced by the Diocese of Perth in 2024 to commemorate the centenary of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia. The meeting concluded with an exchange of gifts between the Bishop and the Deputy Minister.
The visit of Deputy Minister Loverdos to Perth was part of his official itinerary in Australia, which also includes participation in the celebrations marking the 85th anniversary of “Ohi Day.”
