Greek Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias is undertaking an official visit to Qatar and Australia from July 14 to July 17, with a scheduled meeting with Archbishop Makarios of Australia among the highlights of his visit to Sydney.
According to an announcement by Greece’s Ministry of National Defence, Dendias will first travel to Doha, where he is scheduled to be received at Lusail Palace by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. During the meeting, he will convey Greece’s condolences on the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The minister will then continue to Australia, where he is expected to hold meetings with representatives of leading research institutions and companies specializing in robotics, innovation, and advanced defense technologies. He will also meet Australian officials, members of the Greek diaspora, and academic representatives.
As part of his visit, Dendias will attend a thanksgiving service on Thursday, July 16, at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Sydney, presided over by Archbishop Makarios of Australia. Following the service, the two will hold a private meeting at the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.
Later that day, the Greek defense minister will participate in a discussion on “Security in the Southeastern Mediterranean” at Business Sydney.
On Friday, July 17, Dendias is scheduled to visit facilities of Australian defense technology companies, concluding his official visit to the country.
