The Plenary Session of the Council of State ruled by majority on Friday that the recognition of the right of married same-sex couples to adopt a minor is constitutional, as “it does not violate the canons and traditions of the Orthodox Christian Church.”
It also found that such recognition “does not violate the constitutional protection of childhood and the paramount/best interests of the child.”
At the same time, the Council of State ruled that marriage between persons of the same sex is consistent with both the Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
