The Greek Community of Alexandria took an initiative of historical significance, which almost coincided with World Archives Day, by deciding to collect, distribute and preserve its cultural treasure, that is, its historical archives, for the Alexandrian community and the researchers of the Greek community in Alexandria.
This is a huge material, which dates back to the very establishment of the Greek Community of Alexandria, including heirlooms dating from the first half of the 19th century.
It should be noted that the Greek community decided at the meeting of its community committee the creation of a laboratory and a new renovated space for the preservation and digitization of the historical archives of the Greek Community of Alexandria.
In this way, the community once again attaches great importance to scientific research, knowledge and education, but mainly to the preservation of the history of the 178-year-old Alexandrian community.
It should be noted that at this time the Greek Community of Alexandria is looking forward to strategic collaborations and programs for the digitization and maintenance of archives, as well as staff training.
The annual celebration of World Archives Day, which is celebrated every year on June 9, is for archivists, historians, but also researchers in every field of knowledge, is an opportunity to highlight the enormous importance and value of archives in scientific research, knowledge and education.
The Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports and other organizations that maintain archives participate in the celebration of International Archives Day.
