The Holy Archdiocesan District of Perth solemnly celebrated Greece’s National Anniversary of October 28, 1940, with a Doxology held at the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Northbridge, Perth, on Thursday, October 23.
The service was presided over by Bishop Elpidios of Perth and attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Mr. Ioannis Loverdos, accompanied by Mr. Stavros Venizelos, Ambassador of Greece to Australia and New Zealand, and Ms. Eleni Georgopoulou, Consul of Greece in Perth.
Following the Doxology, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Cenotaph of the State War Memorial in Kings Park, in the presence of the Governor of Western Australia, Mr. Christopher Dawson.
Mr. Loverdos’s visit to Perth is part of his official tour of Australia, during which he is meeting with Greek communities across the country. The purpose of his visit is to deepen bilateral cooperation between Greece and Australia while further strengthening the cultural and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
