A 10-member mission from Greece and Cyprus visited the Patriarchate of Jerusalem today, Wednesday, headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Greeks Living Abroad Terence Quick.
Fotis Fotiou, Presiding Commissioner on Diaspora Issues, the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem, Christos Sofianopoulos, and the Ambassador of Cyprus to Israel, Thessalia Salina Shambos also participated in the mission.
During the meeting with the Patriarch, they discussed the importance of the knowledge and dissemination of the Greek language through the preservation of the national identity and the important role of the Church, in this work.
The Patriarch informed the members of the mission about the efforts of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem to maintain the Greek-Orthodox identity of the flock, and with the help of the Patriarchate and the cooperation of the relevant governmental agents, to renovate the Holy Monastery of St. John the Baptist in the Jordan River, and to reestablish it as a pilgrimage center.
