The Ambassador of Greece to Canberra, George Papakostas, accompanied by his wife, visited the Central Offices of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, in Sydney, on Thursday, March 31, and met with Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
After their cordial welcome by Archbishop Makarios, in the presence of the Bishops Elpidios of Kyanea and Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis, the Ambassador of Greece and his wife were guided to the recently restored Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos, and were informed about the work carried out in the historic Church building, due to the damage caused by the destructive fire on September 30, 2021.
A meeting followed in the office of the Archbishop of Australia, during which issues of mutual interest were discussed, focusing on the needs of the Greek Diaspora in Australia, and an agreement to continue the good cooperation between the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and the Greek Consular Authorities.
Finally, in remembrance of the visit, Papakostas offered to Archbishop Makarios a book about Ancient Greece.
