The Governor of Alexandria, Mohamed El-Sherif, welcomed the Greek Ambassador to Egypt, Nikos Garilidis, last week, with whom he discussed the possibilities for the development of bilateral cooperation.
The Greek ambassador told the Egyptian official that Greek investments in Egypt amounted to three billion dollars, which makes Greece fifth among the European Union countries investing in Egypt. At the same time, it was stressed that the bulk of the investment was expected to increase even more.
“Greece attaches importance to the signing of an agreement for an economic zone between Greece and Egypt, for the benefit of the two countries,” the Greek ambassador to Egypt pointed out, as cited by the Egyptian media, in the meeting attended by the Greek Consul General in Alexandria, Athanasios Kotsionis.
In fact, Garilidis stressed that there were 104 Greek investment programs in Egypt, which were related to important productive sectors, such as the chemical industry, the textile sector, the construction materials sector, as well as the food industry, commercial and transport consulting services and projects.
Moreover, the Greek ambassador said that he wanted Greece to develop bilateral cooperation between the municipalities of Alexandria and Athens for the exchange of know-how when the period of the COVID-19 pandemic was over.
On his part, Governor Mohamed El-Sherif welcomed the Greek ambassador to Alexandria, emphasizing the everlasting, strong relations between Egypt and Greece, which date back to the time of the founding of the city by Alexander the Great. He also pointed out the vigorous presence of the Greek community, along with the existence of a large Egyptian community in Greece.
Finally, Governor Mohamed El-Sherif confirmed that the services of Alexandria and of the Egyptian authorities, in general, were ready to cooperate with the Greek side, especially in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
