Greek FM: Imperative for all member-states to respect OSCE principles

The further strengthening of Greek-American relations was the main subject of discussion during the telephone conversation that the new US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had with his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias.

According to the announcement of the State Department, the further development of bilateral relations will be based on the foundations laid in the Washington-Athens Strategic Dialogue, the activities of the 3 + 1 group (Greece, Cyprus, Israel + the USA), as well as the close cooperation achieved in the field of defense and energy diversification to promote stability in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.

Furthermore, the US State Department states that Anthony Blinken welcomed the continued leadership of Greece in promoting the Transatlantic and European integration of the Western Balkans. As noted, “the foreign ministers reaffirmed the historical significance of Northern Macedonia’s accession to NATO.” Finally, the head of American diplomacy expressed his support for the ongoing exploratory talks being held between Athens and Ankara and congratulated Greece on the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution.

Pleasure speaking with @NikosDendias to reaffirm our commitment to further strengthening U.S.-Greece bilateral relations. The U.S. supports ongoing exploratory talks between @NATO Allies Greece and Turkey and congratulates Greece on Bicentennial celebrations this year.

The Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias, informed the new US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken about the deepening of the relations with the countries of the Middle East and the Gulf on a bilateral and multilateral level and referred to the developments in the wider region, including Libya, Syria, and the Eastern Mediterranean as well as to the Turkish actions.
