Greece will grant 2 million euros annually to the Holy Cross School of Theology in Boston to strengthen its programs and stimulate the Greek character of the School.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the grant, according to a report by the National Herald, during his visit to the United States in recent days while visiting Archbishop Elpidophoros of America.

The latter announced it on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, during a luncheon hosted at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington.

The Archbishop said, “I would particularly like to acknowledge Greece’s significant investment in our Theological School, a €2 million annual grant starting last year. This offering of Mother Greece to her children in the Diaspora is particularly important because it enhances the spiritual, the national and linguistic links between us.

It creates a sense of affinity for Diaspora Greeks as foster brothers, that is, those who have been nurtured by the same Mother. Just like our Mother Church is the most sacred Ecumenical Throne of Constantinople, led by the fearless Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, civilization and culture – as is the case with the rest of the West – is Greece.

Thank you, Prime Minister, for your contribution to the Greek community, for your love for the Greek Orthodox Faith and Heritage, and for your leadership in the Hellenic Republic.”

This annual grant will be valid from last year, that is, 2019, and will play a key role in helping the economic reconstruction of the School of Theology.
