Greece is asking the European Union to examine the possibility of fully suspending customs union with Turkey, in a letter from Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias to the European Commissioner for enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, diplomatic sources said on Tuesday.
Specifically, in his letter to the Enlargement Commissioner, Dendias stressed that Turkey continues to unilaterally violate the EU-Turkey customs union by adopting tariffs, legislative and equivalent measures not foreseen under the agreement, according to the same sources.
In this context, he called on the European Commission to immediately consider the adoption of further measures. He also stressed that as a message of disapproval for Turkey’s ongoing delinquent behaviour against the European Union, the possibility of a complete suspension of the EU-Turkey customs union should be considered.
