Greece and Albania are not in talks about their borders, a diplomatic source told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Friday, responding tersely to alleged comments to this effect made by Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama on Thursday.
“The two countries are not discussing the borders between them since these are established on the basis of international agreements and absolutely no negotiation on these is taking place,” the source told ANA.
The same source noted that “in the friendship and cooperation agreement that Greece and Albania signed at Tirana on March 21, 1996, the two states declare their respect for the principle of the inviolability of existing borders, and acknowledge that the frontier between them is one of peace and friendship”.
