The Great Archieratic Vespers Service was celebrated solemnly on Sunday, June 30, in memory of Saints Cosmas and Damian at the homonymous Metropolitan Church in Nea Ionia, presided by Metropolitan Gabriel of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia.
Earlier, Metropolitan Gabriel welcomed the miraculous Holy Icon of Panagia Myrtidiotissa from Smyrna in Asia Minor, as part of the celebration.
The Divine Word was proclaimed by the Metropolitan Gabriel, who said that it was a great blessing for the Holy Metropolis of Nea Ionia to host the Holy Icon of Panagia Myrtidiotissa, while he underlined the example of the philanthropist and unconditional love of Holy Unmercenaries, urging the faithful to set the two saints as their role models.
On the day of the feast on Monday, July 1, the relic of Saint Lavrentios of Salamis will be brought to the Metropolitan Church because there is the old and miraculous Holy Icon of Saint Lavretios which is kept at the homonymous chapel. Then the Orthros and the Archieratic Concelebration of the Divine Liturgy will be performed, presided by Metropolitan Konstantinos of Megara and Salamis.
